How Cameras Enhance Home Security

Posted by , , at 9:00 am

Last week, we discussed how interactive monitoring is one effective way to stay in the know about your home. Features like instant alerts and remote access help you stay connected 24/7.

But there are more ways to enhance home security! Today, let’s talk about how security cameras can make you even more aware of what’s going on when you’re not home.

Multiple Camera Options

There are many different cameras available, but they all give you access to see what’s going on in or around your home. Home security cameras specifically help you see what’s going on in your living room, your backyard or basement. Basically, just about anywhere in your home’s proximity.

Here are the three cameras that FrontPoint offers:

  • Wireless Indoor Camera – allows users to keep an active eye on their home from anywhere. It has a viewing range up to 50 feet and can view activity in the dark. A broadband network is required to allow it to connect wirelessly.
  • Wireless Pan and Tilt Camera – an indoor camera with a greater range of view than the Wireless Indoor Camera. Users can control it to maximize their field of view by panning and tilting around the room.
  • Wireless Outdoor Camera – this weatherproof camera can withstand below-freezing temperatures, or up to 122 F. It provides video surveillance of the exterior areas of a user’s property. It can also see in the dark up to 40 feet.

A Variety of Uses

Adding cameras is a great way to make your home alarm system more effective. They act as a second set of eyes so you can know exactly what’s going on at home, even when you’re not there.

Use the mobile app to view a live camera feed or motion-activated recordings, so you can check that the kids arrived home from school safely. Or to make sure that a pet isn’t running around causing havoc.

Cameras are also great for confirming sensor events and reducing false alarms. If you receive an instant alert notifying you that a sensor was triggered, you can tune into your camera’s feed to see if it’s actually a burglar, or if it was just your nosy cat.

Burglar Deterrent

You might not think it, but cameras also act as a great burglar deterrent. Think of a how a burglar must feel when walking up to a home only to realize that there are cameras watching his every move.

Heck, I get nervous when I notice the camera staring at me in a convenience store, even when I know I haven’t done anything wrong.

Burglars simply do not want to be seen at all, let alone recorded, so the sight of a security camera is often enough to send them scurrying away.

24/7 Protection

Security cameras brings you more ways to monitor your home, resulting in enhanced home security. Combined with interactive features, it’s easy to see how this 24/7 connectivity brings comfort to customers.

Great info – Thanks! With how economical they are, why wouldn’t you want to get a security camera system for home or business?

I liked the information about the different uses for security cameras. It’s a good thing that you pointed out that I can watch a live camera fee from a mobile app, because I was just wondering about that. Having a live feed that I can watch from my phone would be a great way to keep an eye on my home when I’m not at my house. Thanks for posting this!

Wireless cameras are a really great option. I have to monitor a huge area and running wires is just not a feasible option. They actually ended up being cheaper when I considered what the wire would have cost me. Great info!

I have been debating for years about whether or not it would be good to get a security system with cameras and everything for my house. I haven’t done it yet, but my neighbors house was broken into yesterday. It’s time to get serious now. We would have had more info but no one even saw him enter or exit the house. After reading your article it seems like it’s time to invest in a good security system and go for it. How much does a full home system generally cost?

    • Valerie Saponara

Chase, depending on what you’re looking for a home security system can cost anywhere from $99 to thousands of dollars. It really does depend on if you want to automate your home, along with add in or forgo having cameras too. We suggest you make a list of the things you need to have protected, then a list of things you would want to have protected/things you want to automate within your home and start searching based off those lists!

I can see how installing a camera can make your home more secure. Like you said in the article, they would make an effective burglar deterrent. Burglars usually go for homes when they’re sure they won’t get caught. If they can see that there are surveillance cameras around a home, then they’re less likely to try to break into a house if there’s any chance that they would get caught, especially on camera.

We want cameras because we travel so much and have issues with youth vandalism, but were concerned about neighbor perception( your a drug dealer) and also heard that it attracts burgulars because they think u got something to protect.

    • Gilbert Cho

Hi Mike, those are valid concerns. I understand being concerned about what your neighbors may think, but I think in this case, you don’t need to worry. Putting up a FrontPoint Security sign in your yard will show your neighbors that your cameras are up to protect your home, and not for another reason.

Burglars are looking for an easy score, so while security cameras might show you have something to protect, they will also be much more likely to avoid your home. In the event a burglar approaches your home, FrontPoint cameras will be motion-activated, recording it and instantly notifying you. Then, you’ll be able to take immediate action.
