Do I need the Frontpoint Touch-Screen Control Panel

Posted by , , at 10:00 am

Since Frontpoint introduced its cutting-edge Touch-Screen Control Panel earlier this year, a frequent question we hear is, ‘why would I want the Touch-Screen Panel?’

This new panel offers the latest features, with many extra benefits, all wrapped in a sleek, modern design. It is a great solution for many of our customers who are looking for the latest technology in their home.

To help you make the right decision, we’ve outlined a few topics to think about when considering the Touch-Screen Control Panel:

  • Your system – what equipment and features do you have or want?
  • Your lifestyle – how does it look in your home, and how do you plan to interact with it?

SYSTEM EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

The Touch-Screen Control Panel offers several new features and benefits. For starters, the Touch-Screen provides extra piece of mind with a built-in camera. With this feature enabled, your panel can take a photo whenever the system is armed or disarmed at the panel. This allows you to see who has been in your home (such as family, friends or the dog walker), as well as when.

Additionally, the Touch-Screen Control Panel works with our Image Sensor. The Image Sensor is a powerful sensor that performs like a traditional motion sensor, and captures images. When motion is detected, it can alert you about the motion, but also take a photo.  It’s is a great way to see inside your home at just the right time.

Of Frontpoint’s two control panels, only our Touch-Screen Panel has the capability to work with the Image Sensor, and to capture images when your system is arm and disarmed at the panel. If these features are interesting or important to you, the Touch-Screen may be a good fit.

LIFESTYLE AND AETHESTICS

Traditional alarm system control panels are big and bulky, and many have outdated designs. Our new Touch-Screen panel looks great on any table or when mounted to a wall.

This panel’s simple touch-screen interface provides a great way for customers to really control their whole system in an easy and intuitive way.

This is great especially if you’re like many of our customers and love to interact with your panel by making adjustments to your system, checking status, viewing arm and disarm photos, not to mention arming and disarming your system.

A bonus to the Touch-Screen Panel is that you can load images to play like an electronic photo frame.

WHY CHOOSE THE TOUCH-SCREEN

Frontpoint’s Touch-Screen Control Panel is packed with the latest technology inside a clean and modern design.

If you’re looking to add more features, such as Image Sensors or arm/disarm photos, powered by a modern touchscreen device, the Frontpoint Touch-Screen Control panel is the right solution for you.

Can I use my old sensors and cameras if I buy a completely new touch screen ultimate package?

    • Katie Rynex

Great Question! You can absolutely use your old equipment with your panel. Thanks for reaching out!

I have a Simon XT control panel, 2 door monitors, and 2 motion detectors with my current system. I will be switching to a new security company at the end of the year. Can I re-use the control panel, door monitors, and motion detectors with the Frontpoint security system?

    • Katie Rynex

Sacha, thanks so much for reaching out! Your 2 Door Sensors and 2 Motion Sensors should be compatible if you were to use them with our system. As for the Simon XT Control Panel, we can not guarantee that it will work with our system as we do use a few of our own components in our Control Panels. We hope this answers your question and ask that you please let us know if you have any other questions going forward!

My FrontPoint system is “in the mail” as I just signed up and opted for this newer panel. I was wondering if there is the ability to create “custom” arming buttons other than just “Away” and “Home”. For example, I’d like to create an different arming button for “Away with Dog” and “Away without Dog” which would change the settings on the sensor for the dog door and internal motion sensors (which I can’t use for our big dog). Is this possible?

I’ve had the Qolsys panel since August 2016, and have found that while it has some nice features, it’s not without its share of problems. Most recently, I started having issues with receiving dual notifications from the panel when the system was armed/disarmed. I called Frontpoint’s technical support line and followed the direction from the representative to restart the panel, after which the system was no longer able to connect to cellular. Nothing we did could get it to reconnect, so they ultimately determined that the panel was faulty and they shipped me a replacement a few days later.

The setup of the replacement panel was one of the most frustrating evenings in recent memory. The settings from my old panel, with all of the sensor numbers, sensor codes, and sensor names was supposed to have been copied over from the old panel to the new panel. Unfortunately that process didn’t work correctly, and about half of my sensors weren’t registering on the new panel. The names showed up, but the system didn’t recognize when a door/window was opened or closed. I spent a couple of hours intermittently on the phone with support and waiting for them to ‘push’ updates out to my panel, up until 8PM Pacific when they went home for the evening without having resolved the issue. Not wanting to be without monitoring for yet another day, I spent a couple more hours troubleshooting on my own and discovered that the sensor codes that were supposed to have been copied over from the old panel were wrong. Because I still had the old panel with me as a reference, I was able to take photos of the sensor settings on the old panel and hand-key them into the new panel to manually setup each sensor.

There’s no way to view, modify or add sensor codes via the website by the homeowner. You can only do this on the panel. It’s an extremely manual and error prone process, but the alternative that Frontpoint will propose is that you get your panel to re-learn each sensor by activating each sensor in turn. If you have over 20 sensors all over your home like I do, that’s an extremely time consuming process. It will require that you run up and down stairs, opening and closing windows and doors one at a time and running back to your panel to key in the name for each one.

Overall, while the support representatives are patient and trying to be helpful, the rigid support script seems heavily tailored to the lowest common denominator. They do not want to let you skip a step to resolve a problem in the way that makes the most efficient use of your time, but instead try to push you through the tedious ‘Idiot’s Guide’ process. In addition, some of the support technicians are not familiar with all of the panel’s features and settings, so if you’re even a little bit technically savvy you may be better off downloading the PDF of the product manual and figuring it out yourself.

Also, Frontpoint won’t pro-rate the monthly service fee for the days that you’re without monitoring due to failure of a panel that’s still under warranty. Even though it’s a small amount of money, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I am a long time customer of frontpoint, I have renewed my contract for the second time and it seem like it’s not good PR on the new touch screen panel I have the old panel which I have invested good money in putting the automation system in my home and I think it should be a incentive for long-time customers to get a opportunity to upgrade there control pane.

  6. Kevin

If we have been a loyal customer for a while what is the upgrade cost to get a touchscreen. Also…is it possible for it not to have to be plugged in. I hate the look of a wire and plug in hanging. It may have been answered before but I don’t have time to read all the comments! I do like my front point it just is outdated I believe. Thanks.

    • Katie Rynex

Kevin, there are many deals that we are willing to make with our loyal customer, however, each deal is different so we are going to have one of our Account Specialists reach out to you to discuss your options. As for your Control Panel, there is no way to have it unplugged and only work off the battery inside. We will definitely pass along all your feedback for future implementation. Thanks so much for reaching out and we look forward to speaking with you soon!

      • Kristopher Turner

Katie, I am interested in learning about the price to switch to the touch pad myself

  7. Blake

I would like a second control panel for my master bedroom however I don’t want to spend nearly $400 dollars on a second touch screen. Please consider offering the secondary panel from Qolsys. It seems to be a simple integration and would add to the already solid equipment lineup.

    • Katie Rynex

Thanks for the great suggestion! We will definitely pass it along.

  8. Eddie

I have researched a few companies and keep coming back to Frointpoint as my next home alarm. I should be ordering my system in the next couple of weeks as home is almost complete. My research found that there is Qolsys makes a IQ2 that serves as a secondary panel. But can’t find anything that Frointpointpoint will have a secondary panel. Does anyone know about a possible secondary panel coming soon?

    • Editor

Hi Eddie, you’re right, there is a secondary panel in the Qolsys lineup. We’re not offering it at this time and while it’s possible that it could be added in the future, it’s not on our road map right now.

    • Jeremy

WOW this answered my question. We need a panel for our back door and one for the master bedroom, I want to get the touchscreens for both but if I am reading this right you can’t have two control panels with FrontPoint??? Look like I will have to go to ADT as Comcast does not support ZWave from what I have read.

  9. Thomas

I’ve had front point for 2 years. Their customer service is top notch IMO. In my area I compared all major companies and looked at multiple online reviews, even went so far to look in home security companies up on BBB. Some of you seem to be b_____ about a $5 difference in monthly cost, are you guys freggin serious? The 1 thing that sold me on front point, when u have an alarm go off, they contact the local authorities and advise of an active B&E vs “an alarm drop,” which are a dollar a dozen. The cops show up much faster for an active B&E. How do I know, because I am one.

There’s not much to complain about when it comes to front point, if like some more options, but if u really look into everything you get its a pretty good value. The only thing I can somewhat complain about was the initial cost of equipment, but it’s understandable.

  10. Ken

We have had front point for about 2years. My wife picked this. We bought a total of 3 cameras and 4 door sensors. Windows were jealousies. We pay around $50 a month. I have always thought that high. The equipment as best I can recall was $1600. In hind sight, two hours of self education could have saved a butt load of money. FP has replaced one of the cameras twice. I agree that their customer service has been good. I have had calls about false alarms twice. When I hear SimpliSafe for $14.99 a month, I think ” great, but what about cameras?” Where else can I use these expensive cameras. Maybe, they are no longer cutting edge?

  11. Pam

After reading all of the comments I think I will look elsewhere for a system! I get the feeling they are very expensive and over priced.

  12. Rick Hutchinson

Interesting all of the negative comments. I have recently signed and will be installing soon. I ordered most of my equipment (sensors, etc…) from Amazon – getting the Touch Pad from Frontpoint. Aside from doing internet research, I also checked with my current local security provider. If I wanted to have him install the same protection, it would cost me nearly $1600 (including installation costs). Their monitoring service – through Alarm.com was $45/month – $5 less than what I’ll be doing through Frontpoint. I like the idea that I can add items – especially home automation that I already have, at any time and no extra costs (except the hardware that I can by through Amazon or even eBay). From what I can see, systems using cellular technology have similar pricing. I’ve got to admit though, after seeing all of the negative comments, I plan to make the most of the 30 day trial period.

  13. Chad

Overprices for what is offered. Smash and grab should be included in the lower level. The highest level has the camera/cloud record feature, but what if I want door locks and temp control without the camera feature, I still pay the same price? Almost $600 a year for the top tier service is a bit much. If something doesn’t change, I will be looking for alternatives at the end of my contract.

  14. Linda

I am so shocked by the comments I have been reading. I have had Front Point for 3 years and wouldn’t have any other company. They are highly responsive to alarms and other accidental alerts that I have had. I had a malfunctioning sensor that kept sending a false ‘sensor tamper’ signal to the company and they called me immediately. In addition, they would call me the minute I got home from work and turned off my alarm system to make sure that I had found everything safe and that I was alright! They never failed to call me even though the issue was a signal that didn’t require police action. I love this company and do not find them expensive at all.

  15. Adam

I have had Front Point for a 18 months and have a pretty good customer service relationship. However they are overpriced for the protection that they covered. Similar services that offer more monitoring services, Video, Fire Detection…etc, are less expensive. This new monitor should come standard for what we pay. Another problem I have with the service was a delay in reporting in alarms. I conducted several tests on the system by activating the alarm and then unplug the battery and the wall adapter to see if they would call. And they never did. I had to call them to verify the system was working. It was working but because of the built in delay, they said the alarm would be disregarded. Up to 15 minutes!!! Most burglars look to get in and get out in less than 15 minutes.

  16. Shaun

I am a very satisfied customer of FrontPoint and have a 3 year contract. Customer service has always been great and I have not had issues with my system that have not been quickly resolved.

But…I agree with the other comments. The monitoring price is very high and I will be looking for alternatives at the end of my contract if there are no changes. It is a lot of money and with how things are today, every dollar counts.

  17. Rick Bullock

Same here, have had for one year and agree good customer service but to expensive. Will leave at end of contract. Also biggest issue. My phone line was cut buy contractors and was down for day and a half which means t my router high speed network was down. Security system down no difference between
than hard wired, so sales pitch just bull!!!!!

    • Valerie Saponara

Rick, we apologize if you thought your system wasn’t working but we’re happy to let you know your Frontpoint system is actually 100% cellular, so even if your internet lines get cut your system still functions perfectly. If for some reason your system is not working the way you need it to please don’t hesitate to give our Support Team a call and they will do whatever it takes to fix it.

  18. Bob

One thing I dislike about my system is it won’t go into alarm instantly or within a few seconds. I understand this is to prevent/reduce false alarms and thereby fees but if I am home and someone comes through the door i want the alarm to go off that second not wait a 60 seconds this could scare the intruder off. I did call and the best I was told it could be set to is a 45 second delay.

    This is not acceptable.

    • Robin C

I have been a Frontpoint customer for the past three or four years. I had ADT before. No comparison. Terrible customer service. Prices increased every year. Outdated equipment, and when I tried to upgrade, the cost was insane for the equipment and for the new contract. I still have holes in my wall from where their panel was installed – it’s covered by a lovely piece or art in my kitchen!

As for the entry delay, you can use an entry delay when the system is set on ‘stay’ – as soon as the door is opened, the alarm will sound. While it is in stay mode, you can walk around inside the house and the motion sensors don’t sound. Call customer support, and they can tell you how to set it for your system.

I live alone, and at night, I want the alarm to go off if someone opens the door OR if there is any motion in my home. I have my control panel in my bedroom next to my bed, and I’m willing to disarm the alarm (so that I don’t trigger the motion sensors) before I leave my bedroom. In order to do this, the alarm has to be set ‘away’. On the normal ‘away’ setting, there is a lag before the alarm sounds when the door is opened to allow you to disarm it when you come in the house. There is a way to set the alarm to ‘away’ with no entry delay. It can only be done from the panel. Contact customer support for the instructions to use this feature with your control panel.

I LOVE Frontpoint. I love that I have control over my system. I love that I can add components without having to pay for or wait for a service person to visit. I love that my system can move with me if I move to another home. Frontpoint’s customer service is STELLAR. Their product is wonderful.

My system has motion sensors on all levels, door sensors, a water sensor, a fire sensor, and a carbon monoxide sensor. In addition, I have my thermostats connected to my system, and I able to program my furnace. It is a wonderful thing to be able to check my system from any laptop, my ipad or my cell phone. Looking forward to adding other components to my system.

Be careful when you try to compare other monitoring services. You need to make sure you compare apples to apples.

One more thing. You are not obligated to purchase your equipment from Frontpoint. However, the benefit is that they guarantee the equipment that they sell. This has come in handy for me. I have had my control panel replaced once, my water sensor replaced twice, and my door sensor replaced. All at no charge.

You get what you pay for. After suffering through a crappy ADT contract, I am willing to pay for a great product and great customer service.

    • Jeremy

You can set your alarm to instantly go off when a sensor is triggered. It’s called no entry delay.

  19. Bob

If or those looking to jump ship to ADT, I had them and was not pleased. Their customer service stinks, the initial rate started low but went up every year on contract date so by the end I was paying almost $25.00 a month more than when I started. Also when I told then I was leaving they did not try to keep me, made no offers to keep me as a customer. I had autopay and it was not easy to get them to stop. Do your homework before signing on the dotted line.

One other thing, the equipment I had was hard wired which meant holes in the wall, at the time (2012) I was told the did not have wireless sensors.

  20. Richard Rimato

    Monitoring price no longer competitive.
Need to make an adjustment to keep customers

  21. Shane

Agreed, way overpriced service compared to the competition. Will be leaving front point as soon as contract is over. It is too bad Front Point doesn’t see this and drop prices or they are going to lose a lot of customers. They need to adapt and change, if they don’t, they will be just another security service that will go out of business.

    • Jim

Ditto, another agreement that their prices need to be adjusted down.

      • Alex

I was unsure about the price too, but when you consider the h/w warranty, service and an actual responsive system, I think its worth. I’d rather pay a few dollars more for a top notch system that my family can depend on than rather the cheapest. When you pay cheap, you know corners are being cut somewhere. I’d rather pay more and have well paid employees monitoring your system rather than you get what you pay for service. If the hardware / service was bad and it was this price, I’d agree too, but it’s not. It’s worth it. You don’t have to believe me, just try ADT, Slomins, TWC or any other.

  22. david snart

although i rely on physical buttons more when it comes to security but its been a year using frontpoint security systems so i am going for the touch screen technology of them. Thanks for the review.

  23. Less

I have 2 yrs left & also will not be renewing. Have stopped recommending as well. Staff is great but overpriced & I regret signing a 3 yr contract. Can get much cheaper with more functions with other companies.

  24. Chris

I have been a customer for about a year and have had very good service. As long as the alarm works the way it is supposed to I don’t mind paying the price most consider high.Remember if you buy the cheaper generic product sometimes you have disappointments, and I will not want to open my front door and see my valuables missing and be disappointed like that ever again.

  25. Troy Hall

It’s not a free upgrade though. May affect my decision to renew or not.

  26. Ed

I have another 2 years on this contract, but will leave at the end. There are so many systems now available that use the same monitoring service as Frontpoint, i.e., Alarm.com and the equipment does not justify the cost of the contract.

  27. Jim

As I read through these comments I can see I am not alone. Though I have been happy with the customer service, there is an issue. The cost for additions or upgrades are not inexpensive. I understand the cost of technology yet, catering to customers, keeping them happy and offering incentives to stay on board with them is a standard business practice for most competitive companies. I, too, will probably move to another company after my contract is up. There is no question that there are other rather inexpensive, not only for equipment but, monitoring services available. Of course, doing the research and choosing the right company is paramount. The next time, I want to stick with one company for the future that offers quality, value and customer incentives.

  28. Susan

Wow! I am shocked! This is an advertising email blast to current clients regarding the touch screen system ( Frontpoint Touch-Screen Control Panel, Do I Need The Frontpoint Touch Screen Panel?) and all 38 comments that your marketing dept. has chosen to print are negative! I am flummoxed! So far I have never been put to the test using your services , so have not been displeased, but this stupidity alone has convinced me that I made a mistake.

    • Erin

At least Frontpoint is being transparent and honest with their reviews. I respect them more for that than if they were to only show positive reviews.

    • Anthony

They aren’t bright, but they didn’t publish all of my statement. I said, “Notice they don’t respond or can’t refute how high priced they have become.” Another company without sustainability due to lack of change.

  29. Greg

One thing I seem to have lost moving to the touch panel was disarming the system via my Schlage lock. I may actually switch back to the old panel just to get that functionality back.

  30. Mark

I signed up this year and the service is good but it is very overpriced. I will be opting out when contract is over and be switching to adt or Dempsey as these feature are included with more sensors for less and less overall cost. Sorry frontpoint. I will not be recommending your company to others.

  31. dustin

I am still frustrated that when I signed the contract it wasn’t available and I was assured that there wouldn’t be any new products released any time soon. One month later the touch panel was released and I wasn’t allowed to upgrade, they wanted me to purchase the new panel.

  32. willie wiskers

Its the same control pad with a flashy interface… STILL only supports a very limited number of sensors, not even enough to completely secure my 1400 square foot ranch. Have had a problem with the sensor quantity limit for YEARS and frontpoint never addresses is. I do like their service, but dont feel like im getting a “deal” even after being a a customer for over a decade. Their data systems CONSTANTLY revert my location data to old addresses, contact, phones numbers and their service has overwritten my custom sensor labels 3 times and they tell me they cannot be remote programmed nor programmed through the website…. seems like they should fix the BASIC systemic and procedural failures before trying to push a flashier model of the exact same control panel we all already have,

  33. Daniels

Shortly after signing on, I found a couple of other company’s that do the same thing as you but didn’t have to sign a three year contract. I also agree that your add on’s like window alarms are quite pricey. I hope you start offering upgrades at a lower price.

  34. Anthony

I too look at the other companies now out there and Frontpoint is overpriced. If I could cancel now without the large fee I would. I used to recommend it and just found that my 42.99 has gone up for new folks. No more recommendations. Unless they reduce the cost significantly for renewals or lower their pricing they Won’t be around in 5 years. Notice no responses to all of the complaints of them being overpriced. I too will Not be back after my contract. Too many other excellent lower priced companies now and Frontpoint can’t keep up.

  35. Edward brown

So can you teade in our old equipment to get the new touch panel and how much would it cost then

    • Valerie Saponara

Edward, trading in your old equipment is currently not an option but thank you for asking!

      • C. Watson

IMO that is bad business practice and is not making your current customers, like myself, feel valued in any way. I thought about that right away. I too feel the price vs your services are a bit high especially for making me pay full price for what other companies have had for years now. I would have went with the touch last year had it not been an add-on device. I will wait my 2 years out and move on.

    • Hussein Ahmed

Unfortunately most businesses do a ‘bait and switch’ scheme regularly. It is also ‘some new or upgrade’ which often means an excuse for them to get more dough out of us. I am walking if I see unreasonable increase in short period of time. no exceptions!

  36. Ken

This panel IS NOT compatible with some existing Front Point equipment, i.e. remote touch controller

  37. James

I feel Frontpoint is pricier when you want to purchase additional equipments or for the upgrade. I will walk out after the contract is done. I have seen better and cheaper monitoring camera at websites like Amazon.

    • Margie

I feel the same. I will also be leaving.

  38. David Goldberger

I too am happy with the service but am concerned about the expense. I am hoping that Frontpoint will soon drop its prices to a more competitive level.

  39. Dave

I am going to simplisafe, the monitoring charges are a 1/3rd of this one, and its DIY install, and the equipment is better and cheaper. Why doesn’t frontpoint compare itself to Simplisafe? their comparison is only with ADT, AND they are ONLY $5.00/mnth cheaper. HEY how’s about giving a discount for veterans, or long time customers?

    • Eric

I have had FrontPoint for over a year now and am completely satisfied. It has been triggered only once now, by mistake by my wife and I immediately got a phone call
After two burglaries in one week in my “very safe” neighborhood, I didn’t research and decided FrontPoint over SimplySafe. I didn’t like the idea of proprietary equipment, if I wanted to change companies one day.
FrontPoint was awesome with ordering and setup. I’m not so concerned about price as low as I’m getting a good product.

  40. John

I purchased this security system, and I think it over priced now that I see all these great offers from other companies. Sometimes my alarm goes off, cause I forget to disarm it and it will sound off for a minute before i disarm it. No one calls from the company to see if your ok. It can only take 10 to 15 seconds to cause damage to your house or for you to be injured by a intruder. By that time it is to late. Can’t wait for this contract to be over.

  41. Nancy Koski

The touchscreen sounds very nice however, I rarely use the pad. I almost always activate and disarm my home with my phone

    • Kenny K

Ditto this. I have moved my system three times in the last two years. Never a single phone call. Really? I’ve stuck with Frontpoint because I signed a million year contract. Once it is over, see ya. What’s the difference in having no monitoring vs. monitoring with Frontpoint ? Nothing.

  42. maack1

I continue to be bothered by the fact that I signed on, am satisfied with operation, but concerned about your pricing. My electronics (phone, computer, TV) are all with Cox Cable and they are offering me the same service for $29.99. So, why are yours so pricey in comparison?

  43. Sylvia

Why are all the responses to the comments so generic? If you publish them to help customers make a decision then why don’t you answer the questions more completely, by actually answering them instead of telling the person to call for more information. This sounds suspicious to me, like once they call you can sell them on the product. I don’t like this and distrust anyone who will not answer questions with direct answers.

  44. joe

All my technical equipment is getting outdated after 3 years customer service just read the script not much help only upgrade if you shell out of bunch of bucks

  45. joe

All long time customers with more than two or three years should be able to upgrade for free at old bulky control panel to a new flat panel for free and get upgraded sensors extra 2-3 years the sensors start acting up they are just little cheap plastic devices with double sided sticky tape

    • Russell

I agree. There are other services and without upgrades, it may be just as easy to switch companies. Providing upgrades would make me more likely to continue.

  46. Tim

Rather than charging long time customers more for equipment, it seems that you would want to provide newer equipment to your long time customers to keep them as your customer.

    • Angelika A.

I absolutely agree! That would be more in line with top notch customer service.

  47. Jeff

I will be moving soon to a brand new home (being built) New is bigger and more doors to monitor. Will I need to start a new contract to have Ftontpoint there?

    • Valerie Saponara

Jeff, great question! If you’re currently a customer with us, you can move at any time without paying extra fees to move the system and you won’t need to start a new contract. Once your move is complete you can give our Support Team a call and they would be able to help you figure out how many more sensors you will need for your new home.

      • Todd

You would figure with all the negative comments on here, Frontpoint would find a way to make their current customers happy. I too will be leaving after my contract.

  48. Mike

I agree with above posters that the technology is getting out of date and things such as cameras are too expensive as you can buy one on Amazon for 1/4 of price. Starting to look elsewhere.

  49. Dom Tiano

The new panel is 21st century. Is it perfect. No. But are you happy with FrontPoint overall? If you are like me and very happy with the company and its service folks then you should seriously consider the new panel. And if you don’t like the price quote then tell them about it. They want your business and are always improving. Give them a chance to make you happy and they will.

    • C. Watson

doubtful with the responses in here

I have a desire to be able to set specific times for the door entry beep/chime to be at different noise levels. For instance, my spouse sleeps during the day and I am home, but the system isn’t armed. I’d like the chime volume to be heavily diminished but then increased during evening hours when he is awake and they won’t be harmful to his sleep. Does the new panel allow for that type of customized setting?

    • Valerie Saponara

Erin, at this time that is not something you can do with that new Touch-Screen Control Panel or the Simon XT. We can adjust your panel’s volume but we cannot put it on a schedule to sound differently at different times of the day.

I’m happy with the service and have had a positive experience with FP for the past 3 years. However, the cost and length of contract terms are a negative considering the competition out there. If I don’t receive a matched price for a similar service I may have to leave. Competition is a good thing…..don’t let me walk!!!

    • Bob

Great advice! I will do my research when the contract is about to end.

Am I missing something? When I look at this new panel and read provided information I am interested BUT when I call I am told it requires me to upgrade to a more expensive level of monitoring. Is this indicated anywhere?

    • Valerie Saponara

Ted, that’s a great question! You do not need to be on a specific plan to have that Touch-Screen Control Panel, however, if you wish to get specific sensors like our image sensor (that will only work with that Touch-Screen) that is considered an “interactive” feature. You will need to upgrade your service plan to do this, but if you just want the Touch-Screen Control Panel you do not have to change your monthly service plan. Hopes this helps clear things up!

I have the old push button panel at one end of the house but also have a second small touchscreen panel at the other end of the house. Will my small touchscreen panel work with this new touchscreen control panel? If not, is there an optional new model 2nd touchscreen I can get so I still have a panel at each end of my house?

    • Valerie Saponara

Jesse, at this time no, that small touchscreen is not able to be used with the new Touch-Screen Control Panel.

    • Brady

Jesse – The old GE/Simon secondary touch screen will not work with this new IQ touch panel. However, the manufacturer, Qolsys, sells a secondary panel, the IQ2. For some reason, Frontpoint doesn’t carry it, but you can buy it from another vendor and use it on your new Frontpoint system – that’s what I had to do.

      • Mike

Brady, Did you have any issues with installing the IQ2? Frontpoint really needs to make a compatible secondary panel available. Entering from the garage and having the alarm go off, because the panel is out of sight and out of mind gets old very quickly.

  54. Jim

Does the screen remain lit at all times? My biggest complaint with my current panel is that it is always lit. Since it’s located by necessity in our bedroom, it’s so bright that I had to fashion an opaque shield to place over it.

    • Valerie Saponara

Jim, the Touch-Screen Control Panel does not have to stay lit at all times and there is a “screen saver” mode you can use to shut the lighting in the panel off.

Do I need to upgrade touchscreen control panel? And how much it’s cost

    • Valerie Saponara

Upgrading your control panel is an option, but not required at all Tony! As far as price goes, it can be different depending on what equipment you currently have and where you are in your contract at this time.

  56. Manuel

Why are the video cameras so expensive, wish they would value the customers and lower the cost..

    • Tony

You can get cameras for $100 by Foscam, etc that are wifi cameras and have no monthly cost. Most of them come with apps that you can launch from your laptop or cell phone as well. I was paying the $7 per month here but then did some research and found it cheaper to just purchase and set up separately…and no monthly fee on top of it.

  57. Rich Fontaine

What costs to go to touch screen?

    • Valerie Saponara

Rich, there are various upgrade costs and they do depend on what equipment you currently have and how far into your contract you are. Please feel free to give our Support Team a call to get more details on these upgrade options!

    • Lee

All responses are generic and never really addresses the issues or questions here. Generally speaking, I have found Frontpoint to be a poor choice from faulty equipment, to inflexibility if the system to price. If I wasn’t in this high priced contract and what they want to cancel it, I would have switched a long time ago. Do yourself a favor a look at another company.

      • Valerie Saponara

Lee, I apologize if my answers seem generic as they are not meant to sound that way. Maybe I can be more specific. The retail cost of a Touch-Screen Control Panel is $387.99, however, if you’re looking to re-new your contract for a specific amount of time the discount we would offer you could vary greatly. It all depends on what equipment you have, versus what equipment you want to get down the road, or how long you’ve been with Frontpoint. Every customer’s discount could be very different so in order to find out what your specific discount could be, you would need to be connected with an Account Specialist who could look into your account and determine that for you. Hope this helps clarify everything!

  58. Antonio

Why do you have so little options for your customers? Only 2 different panels!
It would be great if I set up other panels.
Also, alarm.com has other touch screen panel and you guys don’t support it.
There are so many things out there but you guys are getting behind in tech.
I’m starting to look at other services.

  59. Maxx

    Is it free?

    • Valerie Saponara

Maxx, no the Touch- Screen Control Panel is not free, however upgrade costs can vary based on your length as a customer and what equipment you currently have. Feel free to give our Support Team a call about this anytime you’d like!

    • Jim

I agree about getting behind on tech. As soon as my contract has been completed I will have found another provider at a lower cost per month.
