FrontPoint Picks: Celebrating YouTube’s 9th Birthday

Posted by , , at 6:54 am

Yesterday was a big day, and not just because millions were celebrating Valentine’s Day, but also because it was YouTube’s birthday! It’s hard to believe that the video-sharing website has already been around for nine long years, and in that time it’s become one of the most frequented websites in the world.

Users log into YouTube every day to upload, view, and share videos. We can’t even begin to count how many hours we’ve spent on the site, and can you blame us? There is (what seems to be) an endless amount of content! Some videos even go viral, turning everyday citizens into overnight celebrities.

To celebrate YouTube’s birthday, we’re sharing our favorite videos from the past few years.

A Pep Talk from Kid President: Ever feel down or uninspired? All it might take to turn your mood around is this pep talk from the Kid President. He speaks words of encouragement that find a way to be inspiring and funny at the same time.

OK Go – Here It Goes Again
: Music videos are a dime a dozen, but this particular video by OK Go captured our hearts with its unique and simple premise. The dancing band members on treadmills is entertaining in itself, but the best part is that the video was filmed in a single, continuous take.

Morgan Freeman Finger Painting
: Don’t mind the simple title, this isn’t just normal finger painting – it’s finger painting on an iPad. Digital art takes on a whole new meaning in this video, where the artist recreates a portrait of Morgan Freeman with such incredible detail, even including the oils on his face. Seriously, it’s almost scary.

GoPro HD Highlights
: GoPro cameras have become popular over the past few years due to their ability to capture high-quality videos, often of extreme sports from a first-person perspective. This particular video perfectly encompasses what GoPro cameras are all about.

Charlie Bit My Finger, Again
: No compilation of YouTube videos is complete until you include this icon. If you haven’t seen the video yet, chances are you’ve at least heard of it. It is one of the greatest viral sensations and has amassed more than 650 million views.
